In 2007, Gaurav Bhatia came back to his homeland and headed the Indian division of the luxury conglomerate LVMH. Within a short span of time, Bhatia came up with his own business idea of making wines in the South Asian region. He also played a key role in steering Chandon to foray into the Indian market. While introducing luxury drinks like wine and champagne to the people in India, Gaurav Bhatia tapped the business development opportunities for LVMH.
After making his mark in the luxury sector, Gaurav Bhatia intended to make an impact in the art industry as well. He was appointed as the Managing Director of Indian division of world’s fourth oldest auction house, Sotheby’s. He successfully brought an international outlook to the art industry of the country by shepherding “Boundless: India”, the maiden auction of Sotheby’s in Mumbai.
Featuring 60 artworks, the inaugural sale included some of the best pieces of South Asian artists, along with masterpieces from western artists. The appointment of Gaurav Bhatia turned out to be a master stroke of Sotheby’s, as the auction witnessed a total sale of Rs 554 million.
During his tenure at various leading companies across different sectors, Gaurav Bhatia learned the art of building strong customer relationship, while observing the importance of doing the same. He focused on achieving the marketing goals by focusing on customer satisfaction. Bhatia soon came up with his own luxury and lifestyle advisory cell called MAISON.
